Like Mowgli, my favorite Kipling character, I always felt I belonged to the forests. The impeccable harmony and aesthetics of their flora and fauna—especially those of the rainforests—have always fascinated me.

As an adult, far from that perfect world where I felt so at ease, I began to recreate it—every plant, every animal—exactly as I perceived it. That is how the “cunhãs” were born.

As entities from the heavens, I decided to call them “cunhãs” (or “kunhãs”), a term that, in the indigenous Tupi language, signifies woman, girl, or feminine energy. Nature itself!

They represent the power, strength, and beauty of nature. They are resilient, flexible, generous, compassionate, and protective. The essence of the Earth. The eternal cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.

They are life, and they must be protected.
