Adriana Vitoria

Adriana Vitória is a visual artist, writer, chronicler, and self-taught surface designer. Born in Belo Horizonte and raised in Rio de Janeiro, she developed a deep connection to the Atlantic Forest from childhood, fostered by frequent family trips to the mountainous regions of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. This lifelong engagement gave rise to her commitment to environmental preservation, Indigenous peoples, and cultural diversity.

Her artistic training began with dance and singing; she studied dance from 1974 to 1981 and vocal technique from 1982 to 1986.At the same time, she worked as a voice actress for advertising campaigns in Rio de Janeiro. Driven by curiosity and a desire to broaden her horizons, she lived in England, France, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, and the United States, working as a singer and visual artist.

In 1985, she moved to Italy, where she earned a qualification in sociocultural animation and event organization. The following year, in Florence, she connected with environmental organizations, definitively integrating environmental activism into her artistic work.

Upon returning to Brazil in 1987, she founded Jângal, a pioneering T-shirt brand featuring environmental conservation messages based on her own collages, photographs, and illustrations. In 1990, she created the illustrated chronicle series *A Loucura de Ser Humano* (The Madness of Being Human), using her signature stick-figure characters to reflect—with humor and social commentary—on human behavior.

After returning to Europe, she worked as a singer and backing vocalist in various countries between 1992 and 1995. In 2001, she began licensing her art and established two distinct creative universes: *Companhia da Mata*—dedicated to celebrating wildlife, flora, and environmental awareness through characters she calls *Cunhãs*—and *Mico Tutu*, created in 2003.

Throughout her career, she developed characters and products for the *Pro Criança Cardíaca* organization (2003–2023), had her creations sold at the museum shops of Rio de Janeiro’s MAM and MAR, joined the team of columnists for the *Conti Outra* platform, and carried out projects focused on Brazilian design and the creative economy.

During the pandemic, she also qualified in aromatherapy. In 2022, she released the book *Cunhãs – A Companhia da Terra*, available at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden and on online platforms.

She is currently working on the publication of two new books while continuing to license her art and develop product collections, reproductions, and design projects for the décor, architecture, set design, and art markets, all while keeping the relationship between nature, culture, and environmental awareness at the core of her work.
